Vice President Kamala Harris has surged ahead of former President Donald Trump, following a strong performance in a recent debate, according to the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll.
The poll marks a significant shift, showing Harris leading Trump by five percentage points among registered voters, marking her biggest lead yet, as per the Yahoo News report.
The new poll, conducted shortly after the September 10 debate, surveyed 1,755 U.S. adults. It reveals Harris garnering 50% of the vote in a head-to-head matchup against Trump, who stands at 45%. Even when third-party candidates are included, Harris maintains a lead (48% to 44%). Among likely voters, she holds a similar advantage at 49% to 45%.
This is a notable development for Harris, who had been locked in a close race with Trump in previous Yahoo News/YouGov polls. Her best showing before the debate was a narrow 47% to 46% lead in August. The boost in support can be directly linked to her debate performance, which appears to have swayed critical swing voters.
Strong Support from Key Demographics
Harris's surge in the polls reflects her growing appeal among several key demographic groups. According to the survey, she is performing significantly better than President Joe Biden did when he was atop the Democratic ticket.
