Raised in Hockessin and educated at Amherst College and Yale Law School, he spent a decade in county government as New Castle County Council president and New Castle County Executive before he was elected in 2010 to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate. He is Vice Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee and also serves on the Appropriations, Foreign Relations, Judiciary, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committees.
